Our Health, Safety & Security Committee is dedicated to addressing a broad spectrum of critical concerns including fatigue, security, ASAP, and fumes. These areas are further refined within the HS&S sub-committees. Moreover, the HS&S Committee plays an integral role within the Critical Incident Response Committee, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing emergencies and safeguarding our Members.

Health, Safety & Security Committee Overview

The Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) Committee upholds the Unionโ€™s commitment to protecting the health, safety, and security of all Members. The committee proactively identifies safety concerns, monitors regulatory compliance, and collaborates with Union leadership, the Company, the FAA, and industry partners to address emerging risks and improve working conditions.

The HSS Committee includes the following subcommittees:

  • Fatigue
  • ASAP (Aviation Safety Action Program)
  • Fumes

Each subcommittee focuses on specialized areas while operating under the direction and coordination of the HSS Chair.

Committee Member Responsibilities

Health, Safety, and Security Committee Members serve on a designated subcommittee and may assist across committees as needed. Members help ensure that frontline safety issues are identified early, documented accurately, escalated appropriately, and resolved in a manner that protects both employees and passengers.

Primary Duties:

  • Participate in meetings with the HSS Chair and the assigned subcommittee;
  • Assist with identifying, collecting, and documenting hazards, safety concerns, and trends;
  • Support Member education and safety awareness initiatives;
  • Assist with projects led by the HSS Chair, including collaboration with company safety teams and regulators when applicable;
  • Respond to Member inquiries within the scope of Health, Safety, and Security;
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality, particularly when handling sensitive information.

Time Commitment:

Varies by subcommittee and project involvement; may include meetings, project work, and ad hoc issue response.

Committee Chair Responsibilities

The Health, Safety, and Security Chair plays a critical leadership role in overseeing all safety-related Union initiatives and ensuring alignment across subcommittees.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversight & Coordination

  • Lead and guide all HSS subcommittee chairs (Fatigue, ASAP, Security, Fumes);
  • Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure timely follow-up on safety initiatives;
  • Ensure alignment with Union priorities and Executive Board direction.

Communication & Engagement

  • Maintain frequent communication with subcommittee chairs, often multiple times per week, due to the evolving nature of safety and security matters;
  • Organize and participate in ad hoc meetings with Union leadership, Company representatives, Members, and regulatory bodies.

Confidentiality & Information Protection

  • Safeguard sensitive and protected information, particularly within the Fatigue and ASAP subcommittees;
  • Ensure compliance with NDAs and confidentiality requirements;
  • Restrict disclosure of identifying or protected information to authorized parties only.

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly reports to the Executive Board;
  • Track initiatives, emergent issues, committee actions, and recommendations;
  • Manage scheduling, project closeouts, and documentation;
  • Submit required timesheets and attend monthly Chair and leadership meetings.

Project Leadership & Industry Engagement

  • Lead Union-led safety, health, and security initiatives;
  • Coordinate with Company safety teams, the FAA, and other unions as required;
  • Attend selected safety, health, and security conferences and integrate best practices into Union programs.

Time Commitment:

Significant and ongoing; includes scheduled monthly meetings, frequent ad hoc meetings, and responsive availability.
